Why this website?
We are open and transparent about what we do. There are lots of groups, bodies and associations out there supporting fintech from different angles. On occasions, some of these appear to confuse themselves that they 'own the fintech agenda'. That is an example of not being open and transparent.
Our view is straight-forward: "Nobody nor groups of bodies own the fintech agenda nor speak solely for fintech. Multiple voices discussing, supporting and promoting fintech are what fintech companies really need for positive reinforcement of the finserv innovation agenda. This is particularly the case during covid-19 which like the last financial crisis will likely see many new excellent fintech ideas born." Peter Oakes, Founder, Fintech Ireland.
We believe that fintech groups and companies will share the same view whether they be a collective group, a finserv disruptor, an incumbent finserv commencing a digital transformation or a young fintech startup.
Fintech Ireland has hosted events, spoken at events and has supported events in Northern Ireland since at least September 2016 when we it ran Northern Ireland’s Fintech Scene – Challenges & Opportunities Post-Brexit - Tuesday, 27th September 2016. Northern Irish fintech are also included on the famous Fintech Ireland Map. On that topic, keep an eye on this website.
We look forward to hosting and supporting further events and initiatives for Northern Ireland and fair and equal collaboration with other bodies and groups which support the fintech ecosystem in Northern Ireland. Presently, FintechNI.com is not funded by subscribers, members or grants. Again, is an extension of the All Island of Ireland Fintech Initiative established by Fintech Ireland in 2013.
We welcome discussions with people and groups that put the fintech community first. We understand the role of commercial bodies, associations and others which charge fees. We also understand the role of groups, networks and meet-ups which are free for their members. We are but one of many voices in the Northern Irish fintech ecosystem to help advance this fintech community. As we are not limited in what we do and who we can engage with, we hope that, just like Fintech Ireland, we can help join the dots and be a useful portal in the Northern Irish fintech community.
And it is great to see the excellent work by government agencies in the UK and Ireland which support fintech e.g. Department for International Trade, HM Treasury, UK Cabinet Office, Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland and Department of Finance plus many more.
Fintech Northern Ireland doesn't consult nor provide paid services. FintechNI.com don't raise revenue through subscriptions nor event fees. It is established as a not for profit network. Any costs associated with its activities are paid for by collaborators or by event sponsors/partners.
This site - https://fintechni.com* (also www.fintechni.co.uk*) - is another voice in the community supporting, promoting and representing fintech in Northern Ireland. We hope this explains "Why this website?" We hope other groups and people will also launch similar initiatives. Now is the time for everyone to be pulling in the same direction.
